Blessed Nikah

Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “The most blessed nikah is the one with the least expenses.” [Bayhaqi]


Simple Nikah

Today, the youth of many men and women is destroyed because they cannot afford the lavish weddings that have become the standard. They do not possess, in terms of dowry or mahr, what society says they must give in order to get married. Others get into debt for extravagant wedding functions. Even those who can afford lavish weddings are responsible for the wastage involved, while the money could have been put to so much better use. To make matters worse, the resulting marriage is often not even a successful one. In order to make our weddings more blessed we need to abandon these customs, and on such occasions take a lesson from the simple nikah of Fatima (radi allahu anha) whose dowry was one water-bag and one bed.

Mehar - The Sweet Dowry

Assalamoalaikum Warahmatullahi wabarakatahu 'Mehar' (also pronounced as dainMehar) which means dowry in the Islamic tradition is an  important Right of a wife in Islam,which becomes the responsibility of the husband to pay, soon after the Marriage, even if it is not mentioned in writing ,  It is an essential aspect, and it is assumed that there is an intention on the part of the bridegroom to pay Mehar and intention on the part of the bride to receive it.  Cool Right? A Marriage becomes annulled if the couple foregoes it, whatsoever it should be paid by the bridegroom and demanded by the bride!!!! In Islam, Marriage is a contract and Mehar is the name of that 'Right' which a wife gets from her husband. Dowry isn't the Only Hurdle for Delayed Marriages – Think about it!!

Real Ishq In our society today, dowry is in fact a huge anaconda that is swallowing up many married lives and eating away lives of many young brides. The crave for more and more and to acquire the things which one always desired of, is leading to the seeking of more dowry. Long time back, a maid would come for household chores at our house; she had her daughters’ marriage done by giving huge dowry. The grooms would be Auto-rickshaw mechanic, Pan-shop owner, security guard, office-boy, etc. But they opened wide mouths for dowry, asking for Honda Unicorn bike or Splendor, 100-200 gms gold, 1-2 Lakh i.e 100,000 to 200,000 Indian Rupees as ‘ Jode ki Rakham – money for purchasing cloths’ (as though this person has lived all his life naked without cloths), delicious food in marriage for groom’s family, friends, acquaintances, and even those whom he met in the barber shop, the guest-list ranges from minimum 500-1500 people.
